I have a L3010 with backhoe. The backhoe has a chain (much like a motorcycle chain) which is part of the mechanism which allows the boom to swing from right to left. Should this chain be greased occasionally? Nowhere in the manual does it say anything about this.

My 8B has similar chains. I hit them with a few squirts of 30W oil when I grease the backhoe. I bought the tractor and backhoe used and it looked like I was the first person who ever lubricated the chains. They are beefy enough to look like they would last as long as the backhoe even if they were run dry. I figure a little oil can't hurt that much.

I have a number of motorcycles and ATVs so as such I have chain lube by 'Bel-Ray' in a spray can, its a very hi viscosity 'sticky' lube that stays put. I use in on my woods GB7500. When I wash the tractor I clean all greases etc that have squeezed out with engine cleaner and a regular hose/nozzle. then regrease. No rust here!
and while we are at it - who sprays the ball/sockets for the 3PH arms? I use WD40 liberally. ....

Spray chain lubricants are available in most tractor stores. It's a good idea to clean them occasionally rather than always spraying more lub on. I've put grease on the lift arm ball sockets sometimes, but I don't think much about them. Spraying them may be a good idea. One of the newer Teflon rust oils may be good. I've heard that it's good to avoid using detergent engine oil for general lubrication--especially for lubricating electrical motor bushings. The idea is that the detergent disperses water so it stays in the lubricated part and may promote corrosion. Engines get hot enough to evaporate moisture in the oil. Non-detergent engine oils are available I guess. After I heard the comment, I started thinking about what I put into my oilcan. Seems like I may not have thought too much, 'cause I think 10W-30 is still in the can. ....
